Watch and listen and guess vocabulary from context

  • Encourage ss to guess the meanings of words from context

  • Compare dialogues produced to the one in the clip

Ss choose a word from a choice of five, which they will try to guess the meaning of – I will stress that I am not expecting a precise definition

Ss watch the clip with sound, compare to their version of the dialogue and try to guess the general meaning of their word from context

Decide if it is necessary to watch the clip again

Discuss the meaning of the word

Focus on fast, natural connected speech

  • Raise awareness of aspects of connected speech as an aid to listening

  • Highlight some features of natural spoken English

Match transcriptions to phonemic representations of connected speech – once finished they can start practising saying the phrases

  • To give the ss an opportunity to watch the original clip as an authentic task
